Siobhan Benita and the London Liberal Democrats are mobilising their supporters across the capital to help in the fight against coronavirus.
In London, Benita is launching the "Calling with Kindness" initiative as part of the nationwide Coronavirus Community Taskforce established by the Liberal Democrats. Thousands of party members and supporters in the capital will be involved in identifying those in need and taking part in community efforts to protect the most vulnerable in society.
The nationwide effort will be doing similar work, identifying people who need support and guiding Liberal Democrat councillors, members, activists and supporters to ways that they can help in their local communities.
Lib Dem London Mayoral candidate, Siobhan Benita - who had made kindness a central theme for her campaign - is leading the Task Force's activities across London. She said:
"This is a time for everyone to work together, to show kindness and to help the most vulnerable. I have been heartened by how many people have asked me what they can be doing to help and how many community initiatives have already sprung up across the capital.
"We have thousands of Lib Dem members in London and many more registered supporters. We can tap into this amazing network of potential volunteers to support other community efforts happening across the capital.
"We'll be asking volunteers to make phone calls to people who are most at risk or likely to need support - and link them up with charities, councils or local groups offering help. They'll also be able to help share best practice, useful ideas, and ensure local people are able to follow the official government guidance."
