Lib Dem candidate for Mayor of London, Siobhan Benita speaks to BBC London about putting forward the city as a pilot for cannabis legalisation.
Speaking to presenter Jim Davis, Benita explained how legalisation was the safest way forward to the capital.
Responding to a report showing that two-thirds of cannabis users are never formally charged, she claimed that "decriminalisation of cannabis by the back door" is boosting the violent and aggressive illegal drugs market. Instead, we should be looking at legalisation which puts the power back into the Government's hands and out of the hands of gangs.
Siobhan Benita is an expert on violent crime, having served on the cross-party Youth Violence Commission, and has put together a five-point plan for tackling knife crime in the capital.
